Red Maple, March 16, 2012 will includ works by  Prokofiev, Leclair, Haydn, and
Wieniawski among others.

Red Maple is a string ensemble assembled of some of the finest musicians Canada has to offer. Its  

members have graduated from institutions across Canada, the United States and Europe, and performed all

over the world as soloists, chamber musicians and orchestral players. The purpose of Red Maple is to find

and dig out forgotten works by great composers and perform new music works written for various sized

string ensembles. From String duos, trios, quartets, larger sized chamber works and solo works, Red Maple

strives to add awesome amounts of variety to any concert of any size.

 

Canadian violinist Boris Kupesic, a Toronto native, is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto

and the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in

performance as well as a Performer Diploma. His principal teachers were Nelli Shkolnikova and Mauricio

Fuks. A strong supporter of new music, he has debuted works by Alexandra du Bois, James Holt, Cesar

Cano and David Dzubay at various venues and concert halls throughout Canada and the United States.

Boris has performed in solo, chamber and orchestral concerts across the United States, Canada, Europe and

Asia with artists such as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Plácido Domingo and Leonidas Kavakos. From 2006-

2010 Mr. Kupesic was assistant concertmaster of the Palau de les Arts orchestra in Valencia, Spain under

the musical directorships of maestros Lorin Maazel and Zubin Mehta. Upon his return to Toronto, he has

co-founded a new string ensemble by the name of Red Maple whose purpose is to showcase a variable

concert platform of forgotten, new and familiar works.

 

Canadian violinist Véronique Mathieu has performed as soloist and chamber musician in Austria, Brazil,

Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, France, Switzerland, and the United States. She is currently the

Concertmaster of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, a member of the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in

Texas, and regularly performs with the Montreal Contemporary Ensemble. She is an avid contemporary

music performer, has premiered many works by American and Canadian composers, and recently won the

3rd Prize at the 2010 Krakow International Contemporary Music Competition. Véronique holds degrees

from the Conservatoire de Musique de Québec, McGill University, and Indiana University. She is currently

completing her Doctorate in violin performance under the guidance of Mark Kaplan at the Indiana

University Jacobs School of Music, where she previously earned a Master’s degree and a Performer

Diploma as a student of Miriam Fried. Véronique wishes to thank the Canada Council for the Arts for its

generous support through the loan of the 1715 Dominicus Montagnana violin.
